Jump for joy. The kids are back at school and childcare today!

Mums often confide in me that they look forward to going to work for a break. And as a Mum and child carer myself, I totally get it.

Being a mum is constantly demanding and exhausting.

We all need time to ourselves to relax, restore and reset.

But back to school and work, returns with its old issues of trying to juggle everything.

There is a way in 2024 to avoid the old feeling of burnout and stress. Putting down the balls and doing nothing will increase your productivity and patience. Both of which are needed to be a working mum.

We feel lazy or guilty when we do nothing, but you aren’t meant to be DOING all the time. You’re a human BEING. And that means allowing yourself to just be in the moment and step back from what you are doing. This distance gives you clarity and calmness.

Do you allow yourself time to do nothing?

To sip coffee and daydream or soak in the bath? (Okay, not all mums enjoy a bath, more on this in next week’s blog, but you get my point)

You Time is vital to maintaining inner balance and gaining a clearer perspective. Daily time to tend to your own needs and to relax is a necessity. This includes what you eat and how you sleep, both of which are essential to your overall health and how you manage stress.

Exercise, meditation, yoga, painting, reading, writing, and walking in nature are also great ways to boost serotonin, the brain’s feel-good chemicals too.

U Time has become a bit of a cliché. You hear it so often you shut off and ignore it.

There’s no time to waste doing nothing. But to be healthy and manage stress, guilt free time to just be, is vital. It’s not wasted time if it’s helping you to replenish your energy, relax your body and unwind your mind.

It’s so easy to get caught up in busyness. As mums, being busy is like a badge of honour. But it inevitably leads to Burnout Syndrome.

15 minutes a day doing nothing can help prevent burnout.

Whether you choose to meditate, power nap or crochet?

It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as it’s time for you to switch off from all the ‘to dos’ of the day.

I know just being over doing takes practice. But it will make you more productive, efficient and calmer as a parent.

Try it today and see how you feel afterwards. It’s not about doing more; it’s about doing less. Streamline your commitments and make U Time a daily habit in 2024 that’s non-negotiable in your life.
